Good Evening friends,
Last day of year 2008. me and my other volunteers friends were together last night. We have visited Kankaria Lake. It was excellent parasailing at night. Me and my friends were exited to view it. At night we show the advertising balloons. One of my friend says that it look like advertising blimps. Those balloons look so different in the night time with multi colored on it.
When adventurer Y Srinivasa Rao from Indian Parachuting Federation (IFP) donned the parachute at 7 pm on Tuesday night, he was attempting to create history. And despite lack of wind, he created a record of successfully completing aqua sailing at night at Kankaria Lake. Last time parasailing was done at night was around 10 years ago in Agra, but done on land.
There were more than 50000 people at night who were viewing them and their performance. Powered by Mercury115 boat and guided by PS Mehta from IPF and MF Dastoor, assistant chief fire officer, AMC, Rao performed a feat which was witnessed by over 50,000 people. “With almost no wind, it was like going against nature. But, due to our experience we managed a successful show without injuries,” said Mehta, boat in-charge, after the night-ride. We even see big balloons. My friend ravi told me that in the USA people use helium balloons in such public gathering.
A qualified mountaineer and ex-Air Force employee, 38-year-old Y Srinivasa Rao’s happiness knew no limits after being part of a historic moment. “It was a gamble to do parasailing at night without wind. An little extra stretch of run inflated parachute and lifted me,” said Rao after getting out of the rescue boat. We talked more on our visit to Kankaria in next post.

Good Evening friends,
After giving my free service and volunteering at manav parivar, life back to routine again. I was analyzing my self. The way I did volunteering at matar and the way I treat people over there. So, I was just reviewing my actions and reactions. I also try to understand other people who were doing seva and charity over there. I not mean to say I was noticing others. I strongly believe being volunteer I am not suppose to view what others are doing, I just have to notice what I am doing and how I am doing.
I like to share something thoughts which I have. Does doing seva or charity is my need or need for someone else? I am doing seva for my self or others? If I put the same thought in different words than does doing volunteering is helping me or others? I try to get answer of this question and I found something very interesting. I found that volunteering and charity is MY need not others. If I want to do volunteering than that volunteering is my need, my requirement and I am doing that to make my self happy. Not others.
We continue our talk on this in next post.

Good Evening friends,
Merry Christmas to all. I like to wish HAPPY NEW YEAR to all. Beginning of 2009 and end for 2008. Time is running out very fast. I feel like 2008 just started few weeks back. And we are at end of 2008 now. 361 days completed. Just 4 days left now. Isn’t its time to make a evaluation statement for our self? Where I was at the beginning of 2008 and where I am at the end of 2008.
Business needs to make evaluation statements at regular intervals. Like weekly report, monthly statement, quarterly statement, half yearly statement and yearly statements. If you are aware with what business communities doing with all these statements, each statement get analyze. Top level management evaluates the monthly statement and from that they predict and plan for half yearly and yearly behavior of company. Again with quarterly statements they compare what was projected and what happy in actual, than plan again for next quarter. And with such analysis businesses makes profits and earn money. If they don’t analyze their behaviors during the year, they don’t come to know where they are going- towards profits or towards loose?
Same way in human life, each day passes with guarantee of not going to come back. There is no one to ask us about our profits and loose as being human weather we are going towards upward side in life or towards downward? I believe as there is no one to ask us, we need to be more conscious about that part because there is no control on that.
I think one should ask following questions to him/her self.
- Do I need to analyze year 2008 for my self?
- Year 2008 good or bad for me as individual in material sense.
- Year 2008 good or bad for me as individual with reference to me as human, me as live identity or we can say it with reference to spirituality?
We talk more in next post.

Good Morning, I am reader of Times of India. Times of India is having their local ahmedabad publication called Ahmedabad Mirror that is call AM. AM have started cleanliness campaign. I like to share following news I read.
The cleanliness campaign that Mirror has taken up is something that Fullerton India, a credit company, has been doing as a part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity for quite sometime. The company has identified a segment of their customers who live in unhygienic conditions.
“Our project ‘Clean Neighbourhood’ is a community-based environmental health programme which inspire individuals and communities to promote hygienic practices. The project is a part of our social responsibility activities that we carry out at Fullerton India,” said Bala Subramanian, vice president of CSR activities.
While branches of Fullerton India across the country have been actively conducting the cleanliness campaign for more than one-and-half years, its city branch started the cleanliness drive in May this year.
“We tied up with an event management company LiveOne which provided us brooms and masks. The Corporation and the police also supported us during our campaign,” says Rupen Dalal, business unit manager of the company.
Bijal Vasavada, an employee at the company, says, “Such activities should be organised more often. Initially, many of our colleagues were a little apprehensive in joining the drive. But in the end everybody contributed to this noble cause.”
Not only the cleanliness drive, the Fullerton group also organises painting competition for school students on theme of clean environment.

Good Morning friends,
Today is Saturday and we have free medical camp at manavparivar tomorrow. We are preparing for that right now. The Skin department over there is 100% computerize now. We have just added stock module to the application which manavparivar is using.
I just talk at matar and got input that, we already have 80 patients there. Medical camp is going to start tomorrow morning at 4-30 am, but patients are there at 1-00 pm Saturday. I also get the data that, 46 volunteer are working for medical camp at the site. Volunteers like me and many more here at ahmedabad are also preparing for camp here off the site.
One last thing, when ever medical camp is there, the thought that I am going over there as volunteer and for volunteering, that charge me and make me exited and energetic. I want to say when ever I have chance to give seva or charity, that charge me and make me feel full of energy.

We are talking tips on Volunteering Wisely. We already talked 4 tips in our previous post. Today we will talk another 3 tips and understand how to have volunteering wisely.
(5) Don’t over-commit your schedule.
(6) Nonprofits may have questions, too.
(7) Consider volunteering as a family.
(5) Don’t over-commit your schedule.
Make sure the volunteer hours you want to give fit into your hectic life, so that you don’t frustrate your family, exhaust yourself, shortchange the organization you’re trying to help or neglect your job. Do you want a long-term assignment or something temporary? If you are unsure about your availability, or want to see how the work suits you before making an extensive commitment, see whether the organization will start you out on a limited number of hours until you get the feel of things. Better to start out slowly than to commit yourself to a schedule you can’t or don’t want to fulfill.
(6) Nonprofits may have questions, too.
While most nonprofits are eager to find volunteer help, they have to be careful when accepting the services you offer. If you contact an organization with an offer to volunteer your time, you may be asked to come in for an interview, fill out a volunteer application, or describe your qualifications and your background just as you would at an interview for a paying job. It is in the organization’s interest and more beneficial to the people it serves to make certain you have the skills needed, that you are truly committed to doing the work, and that your interests match those of the nonprofit. Furthermore, in volunteer work involving children or other at-risk populations, there are legal ramifications for the organization to consider.
(7) Consider volunteering as a family.
Think about looking for a volunteer opportunity suitable for parents and children to do together, or for a husband and wife to take on as a team. When a family volunteers to work together at a nonprofit organization, the experience can bring them closer together, teach young children the value of giving their time and effort, introduce everyone in the family to skills and experiences never before encountered, and give the entire family a shared experience as a wonderful family memory.

Good Evening friends,
December 5, 2008 is The International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development (IVD). I like to share what UN site says on this day. I found following note at United Nations Volunteers.
Volunteers and volunteer-involving organizations around the world are gearing up to celebrate International Volunteer Day on 5 December, an opportunity to recognize the contribution of volunteerism to peace and development.
The International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development (IVD) was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly through Resolution A/RES/40/212 on 17 December 1985. Since then volunteers and volunteer-involving organizations have joined with governments, NGOs, UN agencies and other partners to celebrate volunteerism and lay the ground for future activities.
In his message for IVD 2008, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon notes that volunteerism is “a potentially vast and powerful resource to engage people in the pursuit of peace and development”. Every individual can make a difference, he says, urging “all members of our global community to tap this great reserve of energy and initiative”.
This year is the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In his own IVD message, UNDP Administrator Kemal Dervis pays tribute to the work of UNV volunteers, who “ensure that governance is grounded in the principles of human rights, access to justice, inclusion and gender equality.”
In the light of this year’s financial slowdown and the global food and fuel crises, Mr. Dervis also remarks on the power of volunteerism to make a difference. “Volunteers enable communities to generate their own solutions to development challenges, in partnership with governments and development organizations,” he says.
Linking the “shared interest in supporting each other’s struggles and successes” highlighted by the global economic crisis with the “connectedness” of the Internet, UNV Executive Coordinator Flavia Pansieri testifies to the power of online volunteering. This year, the UNV Online Volunteering service is launching a redesigned and more easily accessible multilingual website. The site is now set up to match more volunteers with the development organizations that need them than ever before.
Ms. Pansieri also notes that 2011 will mark the 10th anniversary of the International Year of Volunteers in 2001, and encourages volunteer-involving organizations to take this chance to advance their work in volunteerism. “Let us expand recognition of the action of volunteers and encourage their engagement in order to help countries reach the Millennium Development Goals,” she adds.
Activities to mark IVD are planned across the planet. In Haiti, which was devastated by a series of hurricanes earlier this year, UNV and its partners are rehabilitating a damaged school and a organizing a disaster preparedness event. In Indonesia, national UNV volunteers will help young people in East Kalimantan learn about ecosystems and plant new mangroves.
UNV in Kazakhstan is gathering volunteers to give ‘clown therapy’ to children in orphanages and hospitals. And in Uganda, UNV and partners are putting together a week-long series of events, culminating in an award ceremony for the volunteers of the year.
Organizations celebrating IVD are encouraged to share information with World Volunteer Web (info@worldvolunteerweb.org): to read more about events worldwide, click here for the IVD pages on World Volunteer Web.
